As oft mentioned in this platform, I love me some The Adventures of Pete & Pete—the classic Nick kids show from the mid-90s that Allmusic rightly calls “the greatest children’s show ever.” Don’t believe them or me? Check out the clearly smarter Alison Hallett’s take on the Pete & Pete zine and show HERE.
The Portland Mercury weighs in on PetesFest!
It’s my pleasure to a) officially announce that there will indeed be an art show attached to PetesFest, and b) introduce its guest curators, Kaebel Hashitani and Merrick Monroe of Portland’s Sequential Art Gallery!
If you’re an artist interested in participating in the show (and no, you don’t have to be local), please e-mail Kaebel and Merrick ASAP at sequentialart(at)gmail(dot)com, with the subject line PETESFEST.
Art will hang at the Hollywood Theater the weekend of PetesFest, and any participating artist will get a comp ticket to one night of the show. You can choose to sell your work or lend it to PetesFest for display only.
The idea is two nights of similar shows. They won’t be exactly the same, since not everything’s scripted, and their might even be some variation in the set material, but as currently planned, they’ll overlap considerably.
I just confirmed an absolutely awesome last-minute addition to the PetesFest lineup. Proper announcement in a few days, I promise.

HECK, YEAH, YOU DO.
We’re working really hard to put together an extra-awesome Portland Pete & Pete reunion show, but we need YOUR HELP, community. Sponsor PetesFest, and in one fell swoop, you’ll be:
- Helping to bring a really, really cool event to Portland. We don’t have NY or LA resources, but we’ve got something better—an amazing grassroots arts community and an amazing network of businesses and individuals committed to supporting it.
- Supporting programs that bring arts and mentoring to underserved youth. All of the profits from PetesFest will be split between homeless-youth mentoring program P:ear and the nonprofit Hollywood Theater’s youth-education initiatives.
- Supporting local arts. In addition to our out-of-town guests, PetesFest will be highlighting the work of local artists, musicians, and actors, many of whom are donating their time and skills to help make PetesFest happen.
- Getting cool stuff. We have some REALLY sweet sponsorship tiers, including tickets to the show AND the otherwise-sold-out VIP reception; cool swag; and prime ad space.
We’re not just looking for big-ticket sponsors, either—every little bit makes a difference. If you’re interested in sponsoring, drop us a line at the zine e-mail, peteandpetezine(at)gmail(dot)com, or via this tumblr; or tweet at @RaeBeta.
Thank you!

Brush off your buffalo plaid: Portland is finally getting its very own Adventures of Pete & Pete reunion show, hosted by the Hollywood Theater!
PetesFest is an all-ages event, featuring two nights of Q&A, live music, and more, with Adventures of Pete & Pete creators Will McRobb and Chris Viscardi, and actors Michael C. Maronna (Big Pete), Danny Tamberelli (Little Pete), and Toby Huss (Artie); along with a Pete & Pete-themed art show, KrebScout merit badges, the re-release of Pete & Pete tribute zine Waiting for October, and much, much more.
The Adventures of Pete & Pete aired on Nickelodeon between 1989 and 1996, first as a series of minute-long shorts, followed by five summer specials and finally three regular seasons. 20 years later, its appeal holds: Allmusic called it “the greatest children’s show ever,” and IGN described it as “One of the best-written kids shows ever.” In 2011 and 2012, Pete & Pete reunion shows played to sold-out audiences in New York and California; this is the first in the Pacific Northwest.
Any profits from PetesFest will benefit homeless-youth mentorship program P:ear and the Hollywood Theater’s youth education initiatives.

(No, that’s not the big announcement—but it’s related. Keep watching the skies.)
Cheers,

No, that’s still to come.
